Social Media Censorship
I have been banned. Again. They say it’s for personally attacking someone. And I can’t even see the post the bot (well, of course it was a bot, what did you think, a person? Welcome to social media in 2025) had such an issue with it was hell-bent of denying me free speech for a week.
Now, what you’re probably thinking is “yeah, but why make such controversial posts anyway?”
The thing is, I have no way to check what rule my post broke (well, the automated answer from the bot says which rule it thinks I broke, but as for me? I have not really an idea). The least they could do was include that post in its entirety as a quote in the ban message, not a non-working link.
And yes, of course it’s Reddit. The site that has no problems with people spreading literal nazi propaganda (not that it is the only one), but don’t mention the word “Trump” or “moron” or even both of those in the same post, no matter how many paragraphs you have inbetween.
Then there’s facebook. I haven’t looked at my facebook account for months by now, and the only reason I still have it is that my family communicates via facebook messenger. I’m working on a self-hosted replacement, but I guess the adoption will be hard because it’s just another account, I don’t have an app for their phones ready, and messenger is just so convenient.
But with their ideas about posts made by AI to fire up “engagement”, combined to their total inability to handle desinformation, even when they are told it is both desinformation, a phishing attack and it links to a drop-site for malicious code… well, I have given up reporting our finance minister telling me to buy crypto valuta from some shady asian site because “that’s the future”.
Twitter, oh, sorry, Xitter is not even worth the mention these days. It’s only Russian bots and nazis at this point. The nazis can mostly be recognized by the blue checkmark, that’s how well that turned out.
LinkedIn. Oh, does that still exist? It has become a cesspool of what I like to call “anti-social network”. Seriously, don’t they have any control about what people are writing/posting there? I cringe at the fact that the human resources department at my company has premium accounts there.
